Dr. Anuj Thakral started his informal medical training at home (being born to dotting and disciplined medico parents). But he received formal undergraduate medical education at Government Medical College, Surat, Gujarat from 1999 to 2005. He returned home (Delhi) and joined post graduate medical training (Diplomate of National Board-DNB) in Radiology and Medical Imaging at the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, Rohini, Delhi in the summer of 2005. Here, he received foundation training in all modalities of imaging in general and onco imaging in particular. He learned basics and standard work practices in Interventional Radiology from dedicated faculty lead by Dr.Arvind Chaturvedi.
He later served as senior resident briefly at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, ESIPGIMSR, Lady Hardinge Medical College (and attached Kalawati Saran Hospital for Children) to get well versed with nuances of General Radiology, Fetal medicine and Paediatric Radiology.
Then he joined a dedicated post doctoral course in Gastroradiology at the renowned Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rae Bareilli Road, Lucknow. The department of Radiology at SGPGIMS has been the nurturing ground and karmabhumi for many stalwarts in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology alike. He got an opportunity to train under Dr.RV Phadke, Dr.RK Gupta, Dr. Sunil Jain and other distinguished faculty members. He was actively involved in the post graduate and super speciality teaching programs such as weekly Gastroradiology, Radiology-Endocrinology, Radiology- Immunology/Rheumatology and Radiology-Cardiology rounds besides journal clubs and case discussions by the post graduate students. He got to learn finer details of both non vascular and vascular Interventional Radiology at the department.
The clinically oriented and professional atmosphere inculcated a zeel in him to toil hard and think beyond routine armchair Radiology. His habit of meticulous planning and execution for Interventional procedures got further refined. He has a number of research publications based on his work at SGPGIMS.He also did his senior residency at SGPGIMS after the Gastroradiology PDCC and finally returned to Delhi in November 2013.
He joined Max Superspeciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh in 2013. His eight year long stint at Max Shalimar Bagh helped him gain multidisciplinary and multimodality exposure including variety of obstetric and gynaecologic imaging, neuroimaging, aascular imaging, Abdominal and musculoskeletal imaging and breast imaging. He enhanced his capabilities dealing with diagnostic challanges arising from emergency radiology and also performed Interventional procedures in emergency cases. He also established working protocols for many diagnostic investigations including CT Enterography, CT Cisternography and CT myelography, Pelvic MRI in ovarian torsion etc.
He was also eager to utilize the high end ultrasound system for advanced obstetric and gynaecologic ultrasound. He was routinely performing first and 2nd trimester anomaly scans (i.e.level 1 and level 2 scans) and keen to use all 3d and 4d applications wherever needed.
He established Interventional Radiology services in the Department of Radiology, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh. He was routinely performing variety of Interventional procedures for both oncologic and non oncologic indications. He also laid down the day to day working protocols and trained all departmental staff for their respective roles in Interventional procedures.
He also developed a special interest in both diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound.
He initiated the DNB programme in Radiology in 2018 after conducting and supervising all the background work for the same. He was very keen on academic activities in the department. He has been a DNB thesis guide for a thesis each on Breast MRI, Comparitive role of USG & MRI of Shoulder and Knee.
For coming even closer to the community and making quality diagnostic and interventional services affordable, Dr.Anuj Thakral has started his own clinic. He will be providing a mix of
Diagnostic Ultrasound and Interventional Radiology services here.
